We've refined our 56-Step Instrument Quality and Customer Satisfaction Checklist to perform each of the following steps at least once for every instrument we sell (over $299 and not on special discount).

BASS ALIEN'S 56-POINT CHECKLIST

Quality Control

  1. 24-hour climate acclimation before inspection or adjustment
  2. Inspect case/gig bag interior & exterior
  3. Polish instrument
  4. Professional repack
  5. Store in climate-controlled warehouse

Instrument Inspection

  1. Finish is even, no scratches/dents
  2. Binding or adornments fitted
  3. Fingerboard surface is smooth
  4. Fret edges smooth, don’t protrude
  5. Frets look good, in-line
  6. Headstock - finish, joint, veneer
  7. Inlays inspection
  8. Access panels open and close
  9. Motion/vibration test for rattles
  10. Neck, neck joint, & hardware
  11. Pickguard, covers, plastics
  12. Strings - Check installation, oxidation
  13. Inspect & polish body

Electronics Testing

  1. Check all knobs, switches, potentiometers
  2. Onboard preamp check push/pull active/passive
  3. Pickup splitting, tapping, switching
  4. Test battery voltage, check compartment
  5. Test tone settings all positions
  6. Listen for noise while operating knobs

Hardware Inspection

  1. Bridge
  2. Check frets for oxidation
  3. Check tuning machines & tune to pitch
  4. Nut or locking nut
  5. Output jack & plug fit
  6. Pickup screws & rings
  7. Strap buttons
  8. Tuning machines turn easily
  9. Tuning machines tightened, no rattle 

Professional Setup

  1. Tune instrument
  2. Neck relief, truss rod adjustment
  3. Action height
  4. String & saddle position
  5. Pickup height
  6. Intonation test and adjust

Playability

  1. Tune to pitch
  2. Test all notes on the fretboard
  3. Plays well with no issues
  4. No buzzing or dropouts

Packaging

  1. Box contains all expected tools & parts that come with
  2. Contents of box matches packing slip
  3. Include packing slip for order
  4. Inspect/refresh packing material, as needed
  5. Wrap bass, secure cards outside wrap or inside user bag.
  6. Double-box for shipping
  7. Weigh and measure final package

Follow Through

  1. Track shipping through delivery
  2. Update order history
  3. Ensure rewards points credited
  4. Request customer feedback and review
  5. Ensure customer satisfaction
  6. Notify customer of Rewards Points balance and registration
